Thank you OLA for all the generous donations you made to our SVDP efforts over Christmas weekend and the entire holiday season. We never had to withold any aid for our neighbors in need and we continued to provide food and other necessities to all who called in.
One such neighbor was Mr. M, a 61 year old who has been living in an extended stay hotel. He was a flagger for road way construction sites earning between $20.00 to $32.00 per hour until the company closed. He is actively looking for work and expects another job to materialze very soon. He reached out to us for a week's rent at the extended stay hotel when he ran out of money. Our SVDP volunteer was able to refer him to the Council food pantry and pay for a week at the hotel. Mr. M also has about $3k credit card debt at 21% interest. He may qualify for the SVDP loan program where the interest rate is lower, possibly only 9%.
